Italian Article of the Day

Well this happened today, Monday, December 3, 2018. #Italy is 6 hours ahead right now so it’s past 3am (at the time of writing this post). There was a #shrew that was found on the island of #Tavolara off the coast of #Sardinia. It is the world’s smallest #mammal and it made headlines after being declared #extinct decades prior. Manx shearwaters nest there. The rats were feasting on the #eggs and the chicks. Conservationists dropped poison and other bait in 2012 to eliminate the rats. Eliminating the #rats helped #lizards, #geckos, and #tortoises. Weighing a little less than 2 grams, the Etruscan Shrew can eat about double its mass.
